ZAINO SHOW CAR KITS 1 or 2 DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS [DAWN ULTRA® DETERGENT- Wal-Mart, Zellers or Canadian Tire] Z18 - ClayBar - both kits Z7 - Show Car Wash - both kits 314 - Custom Polish Applicators [2 in Kit 1 / 3 in Kit 2] (100% cotton) Z5 - Polish for Swirl marks and Fine Scratches - both kits Z6 - Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray - both kits Z2 - Show Polish for clear coated cars or Z3 - Show car Polish for Regular Paint - both kits ZFX - Special Effects Accelerator - both kits Z16 - Perfect Tire Gloss - ZKIT-2 Only Z9 - Leather Soft Spray Cleaner - ZKIT-2 Only Z10 - Leather In A Bottle Treatment & Conditioner - ZKIT-2 Only Z8 - Grand Finale Spray Seal- [info only - not included in either kit] Once you have completed the following, you will not have to spend much time keeping your car looking great - it's just the first time that patience is needed. The most important thing is preparation. I.E. - if a person wants to paint his kitchen the first thing you do is wash the grease off the walls. That is what you are doing when you wash your car with Dawn Ultra® liquid detergent, available at Wal-Mart, Zellers or Canadian Tire. Another vital point when detailing is the type of cloth you will use to wash, wipe, dry and apply. Use only 100% cotton towels made in Canada or the USA available in big name stores such as The Bay or Sears. Wash first, cut off the borders, then cut them to the size you need. I don't like sponges, natural or micro-fibered synthetics, or any wool wash mitts, since they all can scratch. For smaller sizes use the 16x16 Zaino Blonde Borderless towel, It’s perfect for removing Zaino polishes and applying the Zaino detailers Z6 and or Z8. Also, I am detailing almost everything you have to do, except breathe! Subsequent applications of Zaino Polish will be much simpler. OK here we go: Wash with Dawn This is done only once in a lifetime unless you leave the vehicle unwashed and unpolished for long time, i.e for about 1 year. Here is one of the reasons Dawn Detergent is recommended. From the site of the International Bird Rescue Research Center: IBRRC has conducted research on most of the commonly available cleaning agents and "Dawn" meets all the criteria we have established for appropriate cleaning agents. Those criteria are the ability to remove most oils, effectiveness at low concentrations, non-irritating to the skin and eyes, rapid removal from feathers (rinsing), and is easily accessible. Procter and Gamble now donates all "Dawn" detergent to IBRRC and other rehabilitation organizations. HOW TO WASH WITH DAWN 1. Make sure your car is cool. If possible, work in the shade. A hot surface causes the wash and rinse water to evaporate too quickly, increasing the likelihood of water spotting. 2. Start by thoroughly wetting the car's finish with a medium spray of water to remove loose grit and surface dirt. One trick is to park on a slight incline. This allows rinse water to run off moldings, trim, and recessed areas better. 3. Use one ounce of Dawn for every gallon of very warm [not hot] water. Dunk the towel into the pail of Dawn and without wringing it out start washing from the top down in straight lines. Rinse the car often. Frequent rinsing is important if you are washing on a warm day. Do not allow the soapy water to dry on your paint. 4. Use a final rinse of free-flowing water (nozzle off the hose) allowing the water to sheet off the vehicle. Z - 18 ClayBar Before using a Z-18 ClayBar™ on your car, you must thoroughly clean and dry your car to remove any loose dirt. Direct sunlight should not fall on your car's surface, and it's best if the work area is relatively cool to prevent rapid evaporation of the clay lubricant. Do not risk scratching your car; if you drop your clay bar, throw it away! HOW TO CLAY 1. Use a water based lubricant for the ClayBar, Z7 Car Wash is recommended. Use 1 capful of Z-7 Car Wash to 500 ml [16 ounces] of water. I use a spray bottle for the mix. Shake it up and spray the area to be clayed. The ClayBar should slide like a hockey puck as you rub it across the surface you just sprayed. Just make sure to keep the surface area lubricated while using the ClayBar. 2. Rub with light to medium pressure. After a few passes with the Z-18 ClayBar, rub your hand over the area to feel if the surface contamination was removed. Keep rubbing until all contamination bumps are gone. Just like polishing with Zaino Show Car Polish, work in small areas. Wipe the clay residue off with a soft 100% cotton towel. Check your Z-18 ClayBar frequently for hard particles. When found, pick them off. Make it a habit to occasionally knead and reform the bar so that a fresh portion of the bar contacts your car's paint. If you drop your bar of clay on the ground, it's history. Toss it out. Don't take any chances, discard the clay bar if it becomes impregnated with grit. 3. Do not overuse. A single bar will do 3-4 medium size cars with moderate contamination. If you are removing heavy overspray or rail dust, use the bar once and throw it away. Z -7 CAR WASH Wash the tires and wheels first. If you wash the car body first, the water will dry and spot your car before you can finish washing the tires and wheels. Do not use the same wash water on your car's paint as you do your tires and wheels. Throw it out and refill your bucket. However, if you prefer to wash the tires and wheels last, you can do so by drying your car immediately after you wash it and then when washing the tires and wheels use a low volume spray to rinse the tires and wheels so you don’t unnecessarily wet the car again. If you do, just wipe the area with a towel. HINT: I use a wash mitt to wash my tires and wheels - it protects the skin from cuts and abrasions, especially when cleaning the wheel wells and inner parts of the wheels. HOW TO WASH WITH Z7 1. Mix four caps full of Z-7™ Show Car Wash per 4 litres [1 U.S. gallon] of water in a clean wash bucket. 2. Make sure your vehicle is cool. If possible, work in the shade. A hot surface causes the wash and rinse water to evaporate too quickly, increasing the likelihood of water spotting. 3. Start by thoroughly wetting the vehicle's finish with a medium spray of water to remove loose grit and surface dirt. {if you just washed with Dawn, you do not have to do this} One trick is to park on a slight incline. This allows rinse water to run off moldings, trim, and recessed areas better. 4. Use only 100% cotton, made in Canada or the USA towels. Synthetic (flat sided) sponges and wash cloths can trap dirt, grit, and grime on the surface, which can scratch your vehicle's paint. 5. Start washing from the top down and rinse the vehicle often. Frequent rinsing with a nozzle is important if you are washing on a warm day. Do not allow the soapy water to dry on your paint. 6. Use a final rinse of free-flowing water (nozzle off the hose) allowing the water to sheet off the vehicle. 7 Dry using the type of towel mentioned above. At this time, if you have one, you can use a Toro 210 mph electric leaf blower. This will dry your car in much less time... without even touching the paint surface....this works best after your first application of Zaino polish - the beads will fly away. Before you use Zaino there are no beads to fly away so the blower doesn’t work as well at that point. Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO If your vehicle is new, skip Z-5 PRO for now, if not, evaluate the surface of your vehicle. If swirl marks and other defects are moderate or severe, take time to prepare your surface with an appropriate swirl mark remover, such as Z-PC/Paint Cleaner and Swirl Remover . If you use Z-5 PRO..... • Layer Z-5™ PRO Show Car Polish as necessary to hide minor swirl marks, defects or spider webbing. • For maximum gloss, follow Z-5™ PRO Show Car Polish with one or more coats of Z-2™ PRO Show Car Polish. Z-2 PRO will provide an even higher gloss finish than Z-5 PRO. No matter what polish you are going to use here’s how: HOW TO MIX ZAINO POLISH & ZFX - It is critical that you use ZFX Flash Cure Accelerator with Z-2 PRO™ or Z5 PRO™ for the initial application, even on new paint. If you are contemplating one application within the next 24 hours take either polish and pour one ounce into an empty 2 ounce vial from the ZFX box. One ounce will cover a medium sized vehicle - Zaino Polishes spread easily. If your vehicle is smaller than an Impala, such as a Mustang, you can use 3/4 of an ounce. If your vehicle is even smaller, like a 2 Dr. Yaris, then use only ½ ounce. For one application, put 4 drops of ZFX into the vial containing 1 oz. of polish or 3 drops of ZFX into the via l containing 3/4 of an ounce of polish. For those who have motorcycles, use the Mustang size info. That will give you 2 to 3 applications for your bike. For your Yaris sized vehicle use only 2 drops of ZFX. Shake vial for 90 seconds after adding the ZFX. Let sit for 1 minute. Shake for 10 seconds before using. If you are contemplating two applications within the next 24 hours, pour two ounces of polish into an empty 2 ounce vial for an Impala sized vehicle. Use 1.5 ounces for your Mustang sized vehicle. Use 1 ounce for the Yaris sized vehicle. For two applications, put 8 drops of ZFX into the vial containing 2 oz. of polish or 6 drops of ZFX into the vial containing 1.5 oz. of polish. If you have a small vehicle, like the Yaris, use only 4 drops of ZFX . Shake vial for 90 seconds after adding the ZFX. Let sit for 1 minute. Shake for 10 seconds before using. For the third application follow the info above for one application. ZFX ALLOWS YOU TO POLISH YOUR VEHICLE 3 TIMES IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. You can begin to apply the 2nd or 3rd coat of polish immediately after removing the previous coat. Other polishes and waxes have to cure for 24 hours before applying again. HOW TO APPLY ZAINO POLISH Spray two squirts of Z6 onto #314 applicator pad. Squeeze pad. This helps to moisturize pad. A neat trick that helps you get even coats without having to load the polish up on the paint is to put a few thin stripes of polish on the pad and then spread the polish evenly across the face of the pad with your fingers. The object of applying the polish to your car is to get on thin, even coats. Putting it on heavy only wastes polish, and slows the dry time. Also, keep in mind that cool temperatures or high humidity can lengthen the drying time of Zaino polishes. On top panels, apply Zaino Show Car Polish using front-to-back hand motions. On side panels, use up-and-down hand motions. This helps improve reflectivity. There’s no need to rub hard or long, just apply thin and even coats. Apply the Show Car Polish to the whole car and allow it to haze. If your goals are maximum shine and maximum protection on everyday vehicles, we recommend 4 applications per year. For show car owners, multiple coats will provide the wettest-looking, deepest, most distortion-free finish you can imagine. Z - 16 PERFECT TIRE GLOSS While the polish is drying, apply Z-16. There is a plug inside the cap - remove it - it just there to stop leaks. Some tires are ‘thirsty’, especially newly purchased tires. So, you might need two applications but in the future, one application will generally suffice. Of course the number of applications will determine the amount of gloss. Z-16 will last thru rain and multiple washings. Z-16 is not recommended for vinyl tops. HOW TO APPLY Z-16 PERFECT TIRE GLOSS Clean the area of dirt, oil or grease. Pour Z-16 onto a slightly damp sponge and apply to washed and dried tires in a circular motion. On a cotton cloth use Z-16 on moldings, weatherstripping, underhood hoses & in the wheel wells, where applicable. HOW AND WHEN TO REMOVE ZAINO POLISH To test if Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO is dry and ready to be removed, wipe your finger on a hazed section. It should immediately come off and leave a crystal clear finish. If it smears, it is still wet. You can leave Z-2 PRO or Z-5 PRO on for hours or overnight if you desire. Depending on the humidity and temperature it will take 45 to 90 minutes when using ZFX. When the Zaino polish is dry, remove polish in back and forth movements - no circles. Shake towel frequently. Patience please. This is the most important step of all - polish must be dry! It’s best to use the 16x16 Zaino Blonde Borderless towel, It’s perfect for removing Zaino polishes. If you polish your vehicle WHEN TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 10C OR 50F or if the humidity is high, it will take at least 3 hours or more to dry. Z-6™ ULTRA CLEAN GLOSS ENHANCER After the polish has been removed you will now apply up to one ounce of Z6 on the car using several sprays. Your Z6 spray bottle will give you at least 16 applications to an Impala sized vehicle and many more to smaller vehicles. HOW TO APPLY Z-6™ ULTRA CLEAN GLOSS ENHANCER Spray Z6 lightly onto car in 2'x2' sections. Immediately rub lightly 2 or 3 times, back and forth / up and down, in straight lines, then turn towel to the dry side and lightly buff. The towel will want to slide out of your hands! When the dry side of the towel becomes damp, then refold. Do not let Z-6™ Ultra Clean dry on car. If Z-6™ drys by itself just reapply Z-6™ to affected area and rebuff until completely dry, then get the sunglasses out! Once again its best to use the 16x16 Zaino Blonde Borderless towel. It’s perfect for applying the Zaino detailers Z6 and or Z8. Fold the towel in quarters for best use. REMEMBER TO CLEAN THE VIALS WITH A DETERGENT WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED. IF NOT, THE VIAL WILL BE USELESS TO YOU IN THE FUTURE. THE POLISH WILL HARDEN TOO MUCH. USE DAWN TO CLEAN THE VIALS. Z-9 LEATHER SOFT SPRAY CLEANER Z-9 contains the finest blend of emulsifiers, mink oil and synthetic lanolin to safely clean all fine leather surfaces. HOW TO APPLY Z-9 LEATHER SOFT SPRAY CLEANER 1. Apply Z-9 one section at a time and work the solution into a nice lather with a sponge. If your leather is heavily soiled, use an upholstery (interior detailing) brush. 2. When finished scrubbing, be sure to remove all cleaner from the surface with a damp towel. 3. Do not use an excessive amount or allow cleaner to dry without wiping. 4. Dry the leather with a clean, dry cotton towel. 5. Allow your leather to dry thoroughly before applying Z-10. Just wipe on and let dry. No buffing is necessary. 3. Do not use an excessive amount. 4. Allow your leather to dry thoroughly before using. Z-8 Grand Finale Spray Seal SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING. Z-8 is intended for special occasions and events only; it is not a Z-6 replacement. Once you are happy with the look of your vehicle it is time for Z8 Grand Finale Seal Spray. Follow the same instructions as you did for Z6, but you do not have to use as much - just spray quicker. Do not spray on a hot vehicle. Again, its best to use the 16x16 Zaino Blonde Borderless towel, It's perfect for applying the Zaino detailers Z6 and or Z8.
